In this post we show you a few options on how to make an Oldskool Cafe Racer Headlight!
Okay, we understand you can do a lot with your headlight, let’s start by making it yellow!
There are 2 ways to go here.
1. SPRAY
Yellow Lens Spray Paint
Just search for the 4 words above in Ebay/Google (to give an example) and you will find it.
It is a simple spray paint (lacker) from Japan. As we can tell, it is the most popular one out there for a DIY purpose. It isn’t that cheap, but perhaps you can share the costs with some friends. (They are meant for cars, so there is plenty to go around)
An cheaper alternative, is Krylon Stained Glass Paint Color Yellow (Krylon Number: KRY 9024)

2. FOIL
Yellow Headlight Foil
Just search for the 3 words above in Ebay/Google (to give an example) and you will find it.
It is obviously an alternative to the spray above, but hé, it is also easier to remove if you don’t like it anymore! Due to the fact it is done the most to car heafdlights, we give you a little video on how it should be done (on a car). It isn’t rocket science, so this should suffice.
The Grill
This one is from the Cafe Racer United shed, so we hope you like it!
Step 1 – Get some cardboard
Just try to make a dummy out of cardboard. It took us about 5 times to get the right curve, so just put some music on and get creative!
Step 2 – Get a an approx. 1 a 2 mm thick alumium sheet
Copy the cardboard to it (4 times)
Step 3 – Use muscle
Use your muscles and patience with the grinder, metal scissors and metal files.
Step 4 – Allignment
It should make you headlight more awesome, so make sure you allign everything.
We meassured a lot and use tape for the correct lines.
Step 5 – Test and Repeat
Also make sure that you are leaving a bit of space between the glass and the grill.
Next to this, make sure you leave some round ends for the Rivets to go through.
Step 6 – Make small incisions
To turn it into one solid piece
Step 7 – Rivet it!
Quadruple check everything and when you are ready, drill small holes directly into the metal of the headlight (We use a 4mm drill).
Afterwards, you can directly rivets everything together. Just take you time for this!
Step 7 – Done
Just enjoy what you have made!
Step 7 – Paint it?
We put some color on it, but that’s up to you 
Chrome Modification
Well, the idea is nice, but I guess if you take a bit more time on the finishing, the result could be better than in this movie.
But, like we said, the idea is nice, so take a look!
